Dental Assistant
Training Program
Stop Losing Patients to Staffing Gaps. Start Building the Team You Need.
Dental assistant recruitment has become one of the defining operational challenges in dentistry. According to the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute, 62% of dentists identified staffing shortages as their single biggest concern heading into 2025, and nearly 70% of practices actively recruiting dental assistants described the process as very or extremely challenging.
The InReach Dental Assistant Training Program gives employer partners a direct path out of that cycle: a structured earn-while-you-learn program that develops skilled, practice-ready dental assistants who are trained to your standards from day one.
Dental Assistants are dual-function members of the oral health care team, performing both clinical and administrative duties that keep a dental practice running efficiently and patients coming back. In a typical day, you will find them preparing operatories, taking radiographs, assisting chairside during procedures, managing infection prevention protocols, documenting patient records, and supporting front desk operations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 6% employment growth for dental assistants from 2024 to 2034, faster than the average for all occupations, with approximately 52,900 openings expected each year over that decade.
Certification matters significantly in this role. According to DANB's 2024 Dental Assistants Salary and Satisfaction Survey, non-certified dental assistants leave their jobs at nearly double the rate of certified assistants, with annual turnover of 24% compared to 14% for certified assistants. Practices that invest in trained, credentialed staff retain them longer and spend significantly less time and money recruiting replacements.
The InReach Dental Assistant Training Program is a 12-month, earn-while-you-learn program that prepares participants for a career in dental assisting through a combination of online coursework and structured on-the-job training. Students build the clinical and administrative skills needed to support dental providers and deliver quality patient care from their very first day on the floor.
As an employer partner, you select your own students. They work full-time within your practice throughout the program, contributing to daily operations and patient care as their skills develop. The supplemental online coursework is completed outside of work hours, so your schedule stays intact and your patients stay served.
On-the-Job Training Covers:
- Clinical Foundations; including infection prevention, sterilization, OSHA standards, and the dental office environment
- Diagnostics and Radiography; including patient assessment, radiographic imaging, dental materials, and instruments
- Chairside and Procedural Assistance; including restorative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, implants, and prosthodontics
- Specialized Care and Practice Support; including pediatric dentistry, coronal polishing, sealants, pain control, and front desk operations
The open-market pipeline for dental assistants is unreliable, expensive, and produces staff who are more likely to leave. A 2022 study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Labor and conducted by the Urban Institute found that the median return on investment for registered apprenticeship and structured workforce training programs is $144 for every $100 invested, with nearly 68% of employer partners recouping their full investment within five years.
With dental assistant turnover running at 28% annually in private practices according to Dental Economics, the cost of churning through open-market hires is not a minor line item. A structured training program converts that recurring cost into a one-time investment that produces a credentialed, loyal team member trained specifically for how your practice operates.
Students in the InReach Dental Assistant Training Program enter with clear, documented expectations, giving you confidence in the professionals you are developing:
-
Work full-time as a Dental Assistant throughout the 12-month program, learning all required clinical and administrative skills on the job
-
Complete required online supplemental coursework outside of work hours to support program completion
-
Track and report skill competencies as required throughout the program
-
Follow all employer and program policies and procedures

Employer partners are responsible for two costs: the student's full-time compensation, including salary and benefits while working in your practice, and tuition for the program curriculum. Tuition rates vary, so we encourage you to fill out our Employer Partner Form and a member of our team will follow up with current pricing and details on what partnership looks like for your organization.
Yes. Students work full-time in your practice from day one as developing Dental Assistants, contributing to daily operations and patient care as their clinical skills build over time. Early-stage productivity naturally ramps up across the first few months as competencies develop, but they are active members of your team throughout, not observers. All supplemental coursework is completed outside of work hours, so your schedule is never interrupted.
You do. Employer partners select their own students, giving you full control over who joins your team. You can recruit externally or identify a motivated individual already working in your practice, such as a front desk or patient coordinator, who is ready to step into a clinical role. Many practices find that training from within is one of the strongest retention strategies available.
